The Local Governance Research Centre brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers with a wealth of experience of working with practice and end-users to generate novel insights into pressing local issues in the UK and abroad. Our growing international research agenda includes on-going collaborations across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Our areas of expertise include local government reorganisation, devolution and territorial politics; citizen participation and co-production; collaborative governance; local councillors and political leadership; parish councils; political integrity; gender inequalities; policy and planning in regard to Gypsies and Travellers; public value production; housing; and health policy and practice.

Strategic research priorities

With our commitment to theoretically informed, policy-relevant research on the new municipalism, the Local Governance Research Centre is currently working on five interconnected priority research programmes. These are: Housing and Wellbeing; Collaborative Governance; Systems Leadership; Representation, Equality and Gender; Voice and Accountability.
