Healthcare students

If you are a continuing student in receipt of an NHS bursary,  for the most up to date funding information.

For all students attending university from September 2017 onwards, NHS bursaries will no longer be available. Instead, you will have access to the standard student support package of tuition fee loans and support for living costs from Student Finance England.

Learning Support Fund 

The Learning Support Fund is available to eligible students starting some allied health professional degree courses, a nursing, or a midwifery course from 1 August 2017. This is in addition to the funding package of tuition fee loans and support for living costs from Student Finance England.

You may be able to apply for:

  • Training Grant: available from September 2020, eligible students can apply for at least £5,000 a year
  • Parental Support: eligible students will be able to claim £2,000 per academic year
  • Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses
  • Exceptional Support Fund: a grant of up to £3,000 for eligible students experiencing severe and genuine financial difficulties

Social Work

BA Social Work

Continuing students enrolled on the BA (Hons) Social Work Degree may be eligible to receive an undergraduate social work bursary. This funding is in addition to the funding available from .

The total Social Work Bursary for 2023/24 is a maximum of £4,862.50.

MA Social Work

Students studying the MA Social Work course may be eligible for a postgraduate social work bursary. For further information on eligibility and up to date bursary rates, .

Students in receipt of the social work bursary are not eligible for the Postgraduate Master's loan available from the Student Loans Company.
