Role Summary

My role encompasses the professional development of researchers, research integrity and ethics, research impact and publications.

It also covers preparation and submission of internal and external research assessment exercises, such as the university’s Research & Innovation Allowance (RIA) programme, funding competitions and the Research Excellence Framework.

I also respond to new or changed research governance initiatives by supporting senior management in the formulation of research policy and strategy.

I previously worked as the policy advisor for education and public engagement in a learned society and professional body for 14 years, running large-scale public engagement with research projects and impact evaluations.

I worked with partners including Edinburgh International Science Festival, Cheltenham Festivals, Royal Institution, British Academy and the Parliamentary Outreach Team to develop scientific content for public events.

I facilitated policy workshops and policy development, as well developing and promoting subject-specific policy campaigns to influencers such as awarding bodies, kindred organisations and the Department for Education.
